ChatGPT Ads are still new, start with a small test budget per location for 4-6 weeks, then use
to adjust future campaigns.2. Build the Campaign
Campaign Setup
- Campaign Name: Make the purpose clear to franchisees.
- Audience Type
- Objective
- Campaign Type
- URL parameters
- Budget: Lifetime or Daily
The campaign type cannot change after launch.
When Choosing Your Objective Consider Your Goal
Choose an objective based on what you want OpenAI to optimize for:
| Goal | Objective | Bid Field |
|---|---|---|
| Get your location seen by as many people as possible | Reach | Max CPM bid |
| Get more website traffic | Clicks | Max CPC bid |
| Get more bookings, leads, or purchases | Conversions | CPA bid cap |
| Let OpenAI choose | Platform default | Set by OpenAI |
3. Build Your Ad Group & Ads
Ad Group Setup
Each ad group needs:
- An Ad group name, Title, and body.
- A bid, which matches the objective you chose
- Context hints
Keep each ad group focused on one service or customer need. If you're promoting different services, create a separate ad group for each one.
.Write Context Hints
Context hints describe the conversations where your ad would be useful, so ChatGPT knows when to show it. They guide matching but are not exact-match rules, so people don't need to type your exact words for your ad to appear.
Start With Customer Intent
Think about what someone would ask ChatGPT when they are ready to use your service.
For example, a local dance studio might hear:
- "Where can I find dance classes near me?"
- "What's a fun way to stay active as an adult?"
- "Are there beginner hip hop classes in [city]?"
- "What's a good activity to try with friends this weekend?"
Turn those questions into context hints written as clear, natural phrases:
- beginner dance classes for adults with no experience
- fun group fitness alternative to the gym
- hip hop and dance fitness classes for teens and adults
- weekend social activities to try with friends
Check Your Hints
Ask:
- Does this hint describe what we actually offer?
- Does it describe a real customer need, not just a category word?
- Does it add context the ad title and body don't already cover?
- Does it match the ad group's service and landing page?
Avoid lists of disconnected single words. A focused phrase about one need gives ChatGPT more to work with than "dance, class, studio."
.Write the Ad Creative
Each chat card needs:
- A Title (3-50 characters)
- A Body (up to 100 characters)
- A Creative image: square, at least 256 x 256 pixels. Use 512 x 512 pixels or larger for sharper display.
Use the Preview panel to see the card as a customer will see it inside ChatGPT.
Write Titles That Answer the Question
Use a mix of:
- The service: "Beginner Dance Classes for Adults"
- Location: "Dance Classes in {city}"
- Benefit: "Have Fun & Build Confidence"
- Offer: "Get 20% Off Your First Class"
Write a Body That Adds Context
Use the body to explain what customers get and why they should take action. Keep it under 100 characters.
Make sure the title, body, context hints, and landing page all tell the same story. OpenAI looks at all of them, not just the hints, when deciding whether your ad is relevant.
Use Variables to Localize the Ad
Type {{ in the campaign name, ad group name, title, body, or context hints to insert a variable, such as Business name or Website URL. Flamel fills in each location's details at launch with
4. Final Review
Once everything looks correct, check the budget, ad groups, and ads on the Review & Create step, then create the playbook and make it available to your locations.
